How We Got Here
After “retiring,” I decided to try my hand at re-purposing furniture and “picking” vintage items that can be given new life. I immediately fell in love with the “pick” which led to a shed full of goodness! In order to keep marriage in tack and my storage needs to a minimum, I decided to do pop-up events in order to sell my finds so that I could go back out and do what I loved most, the hunt!
After of year, I decided that the hauling, loading, unloading, and then loading again, was too much for me to do by myself! That’s when I came up with the idea of an “occasional market.” I knew that I didn’t want to move stuff in and out so I had to find location that would pay the rent on one to 2 sale weekends per month. I answered an ad for a retail space for rent in Winterset, Iowa and re:home opened its doors in September 2013. We rented for 4 months then purchased and moved into our current location at 106 N 1st Ave! It was a labor of love to remodel the space and get it ready for hte January 2014 reopening! Then feeling the need for more space again, we remodeled and grew to our 2nd floor in Spring of 2018.
I’ve been asked “why Winterset?” I can’t think of another place that has such charm; such pride of community and collective thought in keeping this small town viable for residents and the business community. It is a gem that has kept the bridges sacred and our memories of The Duke alive. People from all over the world come to fall in love with the covered bridges and remember The Duke by visiting his museum or birthplace home.

re:home offers an uncommon balance of unique new pieces and repurposed one-of-a-kind creations. Our products are sourced from the highest quality manufactures as well as local artisans and creative minds from across the United States. When I’m not in our store, I am scouring the country for unique and inspiring home décor and furniture! Whether your style is Farmhouse, Rustic, Vintage, Mid-Century or even a bit Contemporary, we will have something to complete your home. We also offer pieces so extraordinary you may be willing to redesign your entire home to make them fit!
An Occasional Marketplace
One of the most common comments I receive is, “I wish your (retail) store was open more often!” Although we understand this enthusiasm, the sales model I have created allows me to source the most exceptional pieces from across the country and offer them here in Iowa. Now if you can’t get enough of re:home, you can shop our website, where we offer a sampling of our goods and style. However, many one-of-a-kind pieces can only be found in store. While we do offer shipping from our online Store, some items may only be offered as “in store pick up only” due to item size or other restrictions. Special Requests
Part of what inspired me to open this store was my passion for creating or finding the perfect piece to complete a space, so please let us know if you are looking for something special or have a unique request. These requests will be added to a “wish list” that is referenced on our sourcing trips. At the end of the day, I want our customers to be inspired and love the products we offer.
